These jagged peaks look like something straight out of a fantasy novel. Somehow these mountains look even better in person! That's why they're our one of our favorite dolomites elopement locations.
The perfectly positioned viewpoint here makes it easy to soak in the scenery while capturing unforgettable elopement photos.
Located in Parco Naturale Tre Cime, Cadini is one of the most popular elopement locations in the Dolomites. Hiring elopement photographers who know how to avoid crowds can be very helpful.
The 2-mile round-trip hike is doable for most couples, making this a great choice if you want dramatic views without an extreme trek.
Highlights:
Dramatic mountain peaks that tower above the landscape.
Easy-to-reach viewpoint with 360 degree mountain views.
2-mile round-trip hike with easy-moderate difficulty.
Accessible early June through mid-October (year-round with an additional 9-mile approach hike).

This is the crown jewel of alpine lakes! Also called "Pragser Wildsee", the lake has crystal blue waters surrounded on three sides by towering mountains and evergreen trees.
The best thing to do here is take a wooden rowboat out onto the lake. We guarantee it will take your breath away.
Lago di Braies is another extremely popular location, but you can beat the crowds by renting out the boat dock "La Palafitta" at sunrise and have this stunning lake in the Alps all to yourselves! This makes it a perfectly private Dolomites wedding ceremony location.
No hiking required, there's an optional loop trail around the lake, but the best views are at the beginning.
Highlights:
The most photographed lake in the Dolomites.
Private boat dock rental available for sunrise: experience the lake before the crowds arrive.
Zero hiking needed, drive right up to the lakefront.
Open year-round (boat dock rental in summer and fall only).

"Tre Cime" means "Three Peaks" and these mountains are some of the most famous in all of the Dolomites! There's a reason they're so iconic: they're absolutely breathtaking.
These towering peaks share a parking lot with Cadini di Misurina making it perfect to explore them both in the same day.
With just a 1-mile walk from the parking lot you can get incredible views. If you want to explore more, there's a 6-mile loop trail that lets you experience these majestic peaks from almost every angle.
Whether you're up for a longer hike or want easy access to jaw-dropping scenery, this spot delivers every time.
Highlights:
Most recognizable peaks in the Dolomites
Flexible hiking options from 1-6 mile trails
Shares parking with Cadini di Misurina at Rifugio Auronzo.
Open early June through mid-October via the access road into Parco Naturale Tre Cime. (Want to elope here in the off-season? We'll hike the the additional 9 miles with you!)

Rolling green hills stretch for miles in every direction, and rising in front of you is the awe-inspiring Ra Gusela: a nearly symmetrical mountain that forms a massive wall above the landscape.
The sense of scale here is incredible, and it's one of those views that makes you feel wonderfully small in the best way possible. There are hiking trails that takes you through the hills with stunning 360 degree views of the mountains and only moderate difficulty.
This is a lesser-known Dolomites elopement location compared to spots like Tre Cime, but offers a comparable level of epic scenery.
Highlights:
Panoramic 360-degree views of the Dolomites from over 7,300 feet elevation.
The iconic Ra Gusela peak towering above alpine meadows.
Stunning golden hour light that makes the mountains glow.
Less crowded than other popular spots, offering more privacy, open year-round but winter can require chains.

These unique rock formations rise up from the ground like ancient sentinels guarding the mountains.
The short hike here is absolutely worth it. You can walk around and between the towers, ("Cinque Torri" means "Five Towers,") to find the perfect ceremony spot. The surrounding meadows and peaks add more drama to an already incredible setting.
This is another lesser-known gem that doesn't get as crowded as the famous spots, you'll have more privacy to truly soak in the moment.
Highlights:
Dramatic rock towers creating a unique landscape.
1.3-mile hike to explore around the formations.
Less crowded, better privacy for ceremonies.
Surrounded by meadows with a stunning mountain backdrop.

The views here are some of the most recognizable in the Dolomites: those sweeping green slopes against jagged peaks create an unforgettable setting for your elopement.
The sunrise and sunset light here is magical, casting a golden glow across the ridgeline. Seceda is another of our favorite Dolomites elopement locations.

Let's Plan Your Dolomites Elopement!
Late spring through early autumn (June-October) is the best time for Dolomites elopements. All the best trails and mountains passes are open, like the Rifugio Auronzo toll road that leads to Tre Cime and Cadini. September–October gives fewer crowds and great fall color. Winter is possible for ski-elopements but many high roads/trails close.
Summer is when the Dolomites show their full beauty, making it the best time for your elopement. Snow-capped peaks and lush green meadows create the perfect backdrop, and many top locations are only accessible in summer due to snow-covered roads. We recommend June for fewer crowds than July-August. Expect daytime highs of 45-65°F, chill but pleasant.
Pro tip: Mountain road opening dates vary yearly, so work with experienced Dolomites photographers to time it perfectly!
Fall in the Dolomites offers unique beauty with alpine meadows turning orange and brown, and all mountain roads still open. Snow melts off the peaks but they remain stunning. If you can't elope in June but want to experience all the best locations, fall is your best choice!
Pro tip: Early fall is still popular, so we recommend early October to maximize your experience.
Winter in the Dolomites offers a totally different landscape and unique elopement experience. A beautiful blanket of snow covers the mountains, though many roads and trails close. You can still access gorgeous locations, but with daytime temps below freezing, expect a thrilling, frosty adventure! If that's your vibe, we'll pack the hand warmers (and toe and body warmers) and meet you there!
Pro tip: Wear skin-colored fleece-lined leggings under your dress, plus a white shawl or earmuffs to stay warm.
Spring in the Dolomites is beautiful but location options are limited. Snow melts at lower altitudes with warmer weather, making exploration easier than winter. However, mountain roads to many locations remain snow-covered, and some stores and restaurants close for the season. There's still plenty of beauty to explore!
Pro tip: Spring in an alpine area like this isn't your typical spring. If you want green grass and wildflowers, elope in early-mid summer!
Sunrise and Sunset are the best time of day to elope for the most beautiful lighting and fewer crowds in the Dolomites, especially at sunrise. Mid-day is when most people are on the trails, so it's the perfect time for activites, food, and rest.
Weekdays, especially Monday-Thursday are the best days for a Dolomites Italy elopement, especially in shoulder months like early June and late September.
Our biggest tip when choosing vendors?
Invest in What's Important to You.
Dolomites elopements don't have as many vendors as big weddings, since you'll only be hiring a few people, it's important to invest in quality vendors that will elevate your elopement experience!
These are a few of the most common elopement vendors, and our recommendations in the Dolomites!
An officiant isn't required if you're having a symbolic ceremony in the Dolomites but it can still be nice! We often recommend having a friend or family member do it! It's always so special and there's lots of online tools that make it easy to do. If you're having a legal ceremony, a government official or clergyman must perform the ceremony (more info on that later).
We think you deserve elopement photos that are even more than just beautiful: they're authentically YOU.
Imagine looking at your Dolomites photos 10 years from now and being transported back to every laugh on the trail, every tear during your vows, and every intimate moment in between. Remembering exactly how it felt to be so wildly, completely in love.
It's simple: We know that the best photos happen when you feel comfortable and you’re totally enjoying yourself.
The best part? We’re more than just your photographers: we’re your Dolomites elopement planners!
Here's What to Expect:
We'll guide you through all the planning to make it as stress-free as possible! That includes:
• Choosing your perfect location
• Building your custom timeline
• Helping you get permits
• Vendor recommendations
We'll be with you every step of the way and treat your wedding with the care and attention it deserves.

“Our experience with Sammie and Micah was special and incredible. We never could have planned our elopement adventure without them! The vibe they brought on our wedding day was perfect. Yes, foreigners can legally marry in Italy by obtaining documents from the consulate (Atto Notorio from Italian Consulate and Dichiarazione Giurata from the USA consulate), submitting current passports, and if required: birth certificates translated into Italian. The documents are submitted to the local Comune (city hall). Two adult witnesses are required. Ceremonies are held at the Comune or at on of the Comune's approved as a venues (casa comunales). The Comune then registers an Italian marriage certificate, which can be apostilled to be accepted overseas.
Because of the complex paperwork and limited locations, most couples choose to take care of the legal marriage paperwork in their home country and then have a symbolic ceremony in Italy! This would get the legal paperwork out of the way, but the symbolic ceremony in the Dolomites would be the day you truly enter into marriage together.
Our Recommendation: We recommend having a symbolic ceremony because it’s much less complex than filing to be legally married in Italy. We believe that the day you sign your legal paperwork does not have to be the day you choose to celebrate as your wedding and the true start of your marriage!
Regardless of which option you choose, we’re here to help you through the process of filing your marriage license to get legally married wherever you want.
If you're having a symbolic ceremony, none of the main locations in the Dolomites require a permit. For legal ceremonies, you'll need a venue approved by the local Comune. Symbolic ceremonies must be low-impact, typically without decorations or chairs, though exceptions exist. No matter what you're looking for, we'll help you choose the best location that fits your vision and needs.

Drone rules vary by location, but the most popular locations in the Dolomites do not allow them. Places like Tre Cime and Seceda have regulations against the use drones because they are in a Nature Park. We offer drone coverage for elopements, but we follow all local regulations and only use our drone when it is allowed.
Legal stuff can be overwhelming.

Rifugios, or mountain huts, are a unique and truly alpine experience of the Dolomites. Unlike regular hotels, they offer a more adventurous stay, in the heart of the mountains with cozy rooms, shared spaces, and home-cooked food. You'll wake up to stunning scenery and nature's quietness.
They're great for couples who want a more rugged experience, but for privacy, luxury, or convenience, a hotel would be the better option.
The four best towns listed above are marked on this map with a orange house icon, so you can see their location in relation to the most popular elopement locations like Cadini di Misurina, Lago di Braies, Tre Cime, and more.
As you can see based on this map, staying at Dobbiaco is great if you're eloping at Lago di Braies and Tre Cime, Cortina d'Ampezzo is great for Giau Pass, Cinque Torri, and Tre Cime, and Val Gardena is great for Seceda.

Avoid summer, weekends, and local holidays. Choose sunrise or weekday weddings, shoulder months (early June or late September), and less-popular locations. Hire an experienced photographer who knows off-the-beaten-path routes and best timing. Longer hikes are more likely to offer seclusion and amazing views.
No, most of the best locations are accessible with just short walks from a parking lot or cablecar. Some locations do require moderate hikes and often offer more seclusion. Select a location best for your fitness level, and utilize lifts to minimize walking while still keeping the epic views.
Costs vary: Typical Dolomites elopements normally cost roughly $8,000–$20,000 for photographer, travel, planner, lodging, flowers, and HMUA. A very low-budget elopement can cost a few thousand dollars. Luxury options, multi-day experiences, helicopter tours, or private guides will increase the budget. Reach out to vendors early in the planning process. Photography is normally the largest section of the budget.
Avoid national holidays in August when things are closed, and busy summer weekends when trails are full. Avoid late October to early May for most locations, unless you're planning a winter ski elopement and don't mind fewer location options. Avoid Early Spring as a lot of the Dolomites close down during that time.
Not always, but worth it for most people. A good photographer or planner will reduce stress and help you: choose your location, understand permits, navigate transportation and weather. They also recommend vetted florists, HMUA, and other vendors familiar with the Dolomites.
They can be budget or high-end. Local eateries and mountain huts can be affordable, whereas luxury hotels and private tours will increase the cost. Off-season is less expensive, Peak-season (Jun-Sept and Jan-Feb) is most expensive. Depending on your preference the Dolomites can be very affordable or very luxurious.
Yes. We recommend no more than 30 guests for the best intimacy and easier logistics. Larger groups will have fewer location options, and require more transportation planning, mountain venues limit parking. Plan ahead with vendors and the local Comune to get travel and ceremony logistics accomplished.
Book mountain-experienced vendors 6–12 months ahead for peak season dates (June-Sept). 3–6 months may be okay for shoulder seasons. Verify vendors' mountain experience and cancellation policies. Busy photographers and florists book weekend dates well in advance. It's best to book your photographer first.
Have a weather buffer day in case of rain/snow storms. Work with a photographer who is experienced with shooting in the mountains. Select an alternative indoor backup or village location, if necessary. Check local nearby forecasts and lift/road conditions around the date. Multi-day coverage for vendors relieves stress if weather changes.
Yes, you can absolutely elope with your dog in the Dolomites, many trails, cable cars and accommodations are pet-friendly. You’ll need to keep them on-leash in most areas, and make sure you have an EU pet passport or equivalent, a microchip, and valid vaccinations. Choose trails matching your dog’s fitness and avoid narrow cliff’s for your pet’s safety.
Handheld bouquets are fine. Large installations within national parks or protected regions may require permits or are prohibited. The popular Lago di Braies boat dock does allow floral and arch installations. Always check with the Comune or park agency and utilize natural material that is leave-no-trace compliant.

Yes, but access and facilities are seasonal. Summer and early autumn offer the widest trail and lift access. Winter means ski resorts are open, and much of the Dolomites closes down in Spring. Always inspect lift, road and rifugio openings before planning your Dolomites trip.
German and Italian are the most frequently spoken, especially in South Tyrol where German dominates; Ladin is a dialect spoken natively in a handful of valleys. English is widely spoken at tourist destinations.
The Dolomites are situated in northeast Italy across provinces of Belluno, South Tyrol and Trentino, with large valleys like Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Val di Funes, Val di Fassa and Cortina d'Ampezzo. UNESCO land includes most characteristic peaks and valleys.
Yes. The Dolomites are a special mountain range within the eastern Alps. They are geologically unique due to their pale-colored carbonate rock and stunning towers, but they are part of the overall Alpine system running from central Europe.
The Dolomites are famous for pale limestone peaks of spectacular scenery, dramatic ridgelines, and sheer cliffs that offer spectacular sunrise and sunset light. They are a UNESCO World Heritage site popular for unique geology, via ferrata climbing, skiing and iconic photo images.
The Dolomites formed from ancient carbonate reefs that rose out of sediments in lagoons and were uplifted during the Alpine orogeny. Tectonic strain and erosion sculpted the vertically spectacular scenery of the area that is dominated by steep cliffs, pinnacles and plateaux.
The best way to get to the Dolomites is by flying into a nearby airport like VCE or MXP, then renting a car and driving to the Dolomites. The drive will take 2-3 hours depending on the airport. There are some trains and buses that connect towns like Bolzano and Bressanone to smaller towns, but overall, public transportation is limited.
The closest major airports to the Dolomites are Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) and Innsbruck Airport (INN) which are a 2-3 hour drive. There is also Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) and Verona (VRN) which are a 4-5 hour drive. Most travelers rent a car at the airport and drive to their final destination in the Dolomites. Be sure to use a tool like Google Flights to compare flights to both airports to make sure you find the best fit for you.
We recommend at least a week, ideally longer. Arrive at least 2 days before your elopement in case of flight delays and to give time to recover from jet lag. Stay for 3-7 days after your elopement so you have buffer in case of bad weather, and also have time to honeymoon and explore the Dolomites.
The Dolomites have some buses and trains but public transportation is very limited, we believe it’s essential to rent a car to get the best experience for your Dolomites Italy Wedding. Make sure you choose the transmission type you prefer since most rental cars will be manual. Roads to all major locations are well paved so you most likely don’t need a vehicle with off-road capabilities.
Driving in the Dolomites is fairly easy. There are some narrow, winding mountain roads, as is common in high-alpine areas, but they’re well-paved and safe to navigate. As long as you’re comfortable driving in the mountains, you’ll have no trouble. Roads are well-marked, Google maps works well in the area, and traffic is generally light outside of peak summer months. Just take your time on sharp turns and enjoy the incredible scenery along the way.
From Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), take highway A27 north toward Belluno, then follow SS51 or SS48 into popular areas like Cortina d’Ampezzo or Val Gardena.
From Innsbruck Airport (INN) in Austria, head south on the A13/E45 toward the Brenner Pass, cross the border into Italy, and continue on A22. Exit near Chiusa/Klausen for Val Gardena or Bressanone/Brixen for Val di Funes and the central Dolomites.
From Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) or Milan Bergamo Airport (BGY), drive east on A4, then connect to A22 north toward Bolzano. From there, take SS242 to Val Gardena or SS49 toward Val Pusteria and the northern Dolomites.
1. You won’t have great cell coverage in the Dolomites, so make sure you download the entire area in Google Maps. (Tutorial)
2. If you’re flying from the USA remember to account for the fact that you will most likely be landing in Italy the calendar day after you take off, don’t accidentally book your accommodations a day early!
3. Booking your flights directly with the airline will almost always give you the best price, and allow you to deal directly with their customer service rather than a 3rd party travel company like Expedia, etc.
