Why They Chose Yosemite for Their Engagement Session
Kalen and Mark chose Yosemite because they love the outdoors and the mountains. They really loved the look of Taft Point at Yosemite and knew they wanted their engagement photos there.
Ironically, one of the things they mentioned in the early stages of planning was that they were worried about the weather, because it ended up raining on their engagement session, and they absolutely loved it! It was a wonderful example of how when you embrace what nature gives you, it ends up being more beautiful than you thought possible.
Their Adventure Session: Exploring Yosemite in Rain and Shine
Yosemite Falls & Yosemite Chapel
We met up with them at Swinging Bridge with an amazing view of Yosemite Falls. Since it was raining, there was barely anyone else around, which was perfect for them to have the place to themselves! They danced around and frolicked, first using the big clear umbrellas we brought for them, then embracing the rain and letting it pour on them. We got some incredible photos here, especially wides including the waterfall in the background.
Then a quick stop at Yosemite Chapel for the iconic beauty of that chapel nestled in the trees and mountains.
El Capitan Meadow & Tunnel View
After a quick outfit change, we went to El Capitan Meadow where they frolicked around the meadow, climbed on logs, danced and spun around with each other, enjoying the gorgeous views.
Another outfit change and onto Tunnel View for a quick stop to soak in that majestic and iconic view.
Taft Point & Stargazing
Another outfit change and we hiked out to Taft Point, where we captured them safely on the edge of the cliff (always keeping couples 5 feet away from the edge) with the massive Yosemite Valley sprawling beneath them for some incredible photos. We stayed out for another couple hours to let the sky get nice and dark after sunset and captured a few gorgeous stargazing photos!

When Kailen and Mark contacted us for their engagement and elopement, all they knew for their elopement was that they wanted Yosemite and Taft Point. So we picked all of the other locations based on the time of year, what scenery would look best, where each location is in relation to the other locations, and giving them the widest variety of scenery – hitting the best of what Yosemite has to offer since we’re experts in the park.
We used our unique prompts to get them comfortable and bring out their natural energy and joy throughout the day. You can really see their personalities shining in the photos!
